Hello Mooresville Graded School District —
We will operate on a 3-hour delay Friday, February 27. Buses will arrive at bus stops approximately 3 hours after the normally scheduled time. While many of the streets have been cleared, there are several places throughout the district where the melting snow has left standing water on the roads. With temperatures dropping into the 20s overnight, these patches of water will refreeze. A 3-hour delay will allow temperatures to get well above freezing and thaw any icy spots prior to school tomorrow. With that being said, we urge all of our students, staff and parents to be cautious tomorrow morning. Please check our website, “like” us on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter for up-to-date information regarding our schools. Thank you and be safe!
Message from the Superintendent
As we start off this new semester and the year 2015, I can’t help but reflect on what a fantastic district and community we live in. In my letter to kick-off the school year I wrote, “I know this is going to be one of our best years ever!” So far, so good! We made great gains in 2013-14 with the new North Carolina standards and testing. MGSD was tied for third place in North Carolina in academic achievement. That alone is something for which we can be proud, but the accomplishments didn’t stop there! We were number one in North Carolina in meeting the Annual Measurable Objectives, and talk about a bright future…our third graders were number one in the state on their reading and math assessments! I am so proud of the endless effort of all of our students, staff and parents as we continue to work hard to get back to that 90 percent goal we had previously worked so hard to reach.
Academic success is not the only cause for celebration in our community, however. This fall our community came out to the polls and voted “YES” for a school bond that will give our high school students a facility worthy of their achievements. We are excited to get started on the new gymnasium, performing arts center, and complete renovation of Mooresville High School. We also are looking forward to the day when we have all of our classes on main campus rather than busing across town every period. For saying “YES” to our children, I say thank you!
So it truly is turning out to be one of our best years ever! The journey making it that way is always exciting. At MGSD, we are glad to be taking that journey with you!
