Dual Language Immersion Program
MGSD's Spanish Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program offers students an exciting opportunity to receive 50/50 Spanish and English instruction on an A-Day/B-day rotation. Students receive Spanish instruction from a bilingual teacher every other day and will learn to speak, understand, read, and write in Spanish as well as English. Any rising kindergarten student is eligible to participate and experience a learning environment that will open the door to their becoming bilingual and biliterate while gaining exposure to other cultures and languages. MGSD currently operates one kindergarten and one first grade DLI classroom at each of its three elementary schools lead by phenomenal teaching teams that include six teachers from South America. Every year an additional grade level will be added to enable DLI students to continue their journey toward becoming bilingual. Interest in the program has been tremendously positive and therefore participation will likely be determined by lottery.
Parents of students entering kindergarten in the 2022-2023 school year (must turn 5 by August 31, 2022) can request the DLI program during kindergarten enrollment beginning in March 2022. We will notify parents regarding their child's acceptance into the program later in the spring.
