The Mooresville Graded School District is announcing a calendar change due to a state rally for educators taking place on May 16, 2018. There will be NO SCHOOL for students on Wednesday, May 16, 2018. This day is now designated as an optional teacher workday. Because of this change, this Wednesday, May 09, 2018, will now be a full instructional day following a regular schedule. There will be no early release as previously planned.
MGSD has closely monitored the number of teachers who have requested to take a personal leave day to attend the rally. As of this morning, we have over 175 staff requesting leave which is approximately 42 percent of our instructional staff. As a result, we do not have enough substitute teachers and other staff to safely supervise and effectively instruct students during the school day.
MGSD realizes this is a busy time in the school year. If you have a high school student scheduled for an AP exam or capstone project presentation, these events will go on as planned. More information will be sent by your principal, Mr. Schwarzenegger.
If you utilize the Before and After School Program (BASP), care will be available. Director Cindy Karriker will share more information with BASP families.
For questions regarding this change in schedule, please contact the MGSD Central Office at 704-658-2530.
