MGSD COVID-19 Update - Information for our VLPs (3/23 - 3/27/2020)

Hello MGSD families,

Wow!  It has been quite a week and we have been busy attempting to make a plan to bring routine to our students’ lives!  We thank all of you for your support and patience. As we move into next week and begin our first week of our Virtual Learning Plans (VLPs) in Mooresville Graded School District, we wanted to share several pieces of information with you.

Virtual Learning Plans (VLPs):

From Pre Kindergarten through Grade 12, our administrators, teachers, and staff have worked diligently to put into place online learning plans for our students.  These plans do look different depending on the grade level of your student. We have developed a COVID-19 VLP webpage with links to access a variety of information including the learning plans for our schools.  That site can be accessed from our homepage (the first ICON directly under the photos at the top of the page) or at this link: COVID-19 Virtual Learning Plan.  We suggest bookmarking that page for easy access.  Specific directions, assignments and more detailed instructions will be linked soon and your teacher will be in touch.

School Nutrition:

Our School Nutrition Staff have worked tirelessly to make sure our students are still receiving daily meals!  Beginning next week, we will be utilizing our busses to deliver meals to our communities throughout MGSD. If you prefer to pick up student lunches at Park View and South Elementary Schools between 11:00am and 1:00pm, that service will continue to be available. Please note that these meals are available to any child ages 0 to 18 free of charge (this includes our MGSD EC students who are over the age of 18).  For a list of meal stops and times, please access the following documents:

Technology Support:

Please call 704.658.2526 for technical support related to your MGSD laptop or iPad.  Specific questions about your assignments or courses should be directed to your child’s teacher.

Internet Access:

If you need internet access in your home, the following providers are offering free broadband access for new K-12 and college student households for 60 days:

  • TDS (formerly Continuum Communications) - For more information, call 704.660.3840.
  • Charter/Spectrum - For more information, call 1.844.488.8395.
  • Kinetic by Windstream - For more information, follow this link Kinetic Internet Offer.

Only essential staff will be on-site next week and buildings will be closed to the public.  However, our schools will be monitoring phones from 9:00am until 3:00pm, Monday through Friday.  In addition, you can always reach out to your child’s teacher or administrator via email and as outlined in the VLPs.

We understand there will likely be challenges for you and your students as we embark on this new way of teaching and learning.  We are encountering many challenges each day as we work to provide these services. Our philosophy right now is flexibility! We will be flexible with our students, continue to evaluate our Virtual Learning Plans over the coming week (or weeks, if necessary), and make adjustments as needed.  In addition, we will continue to closely monitor information from our local health department, state government, department of public instruction, and national agencies regarding further actions that we will need to take. As we receive that information, review it, and determine how it impacts MGSD, we will communicate it to you as quickly as possible.

Mostly, we just want to say that we appreciate all of you.  We are fortunate to live in a resilient community who is willing to pull together to do what is in the best interest of our children.  We hope all of our families have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to starting (virtual) school with all of our children on Monday!
