MGSD COVID-19 Update - Meals, VLPs, Internet

COVID-19 Update Graphic

Hello MGSD families,

Yesterday and today (Monday, 3/16/2020 and Tuesday, 3/17/2020), we reviewed our Virtual Learning Plan with our faculty and staff that we are implementing while we deal with the COVID-19 school closure. If you have not already, you will receive a message from your child’s principal with an overview of our plan around 4:00pm today. Please read this information carefully.

We realize this is uncharted territory, and we will certainly be flexible with our students. We also realize that with major changes comes increased levels of stress and anxiety. Our goal is to make sure our students continue to have access to learning and can establish a routine throughout this closure due to COVID-19. We do not wish to add additional stress to the current situation. As we implement this plan, we will continually monitor it and make adjustments as necessary. As you receive information regarding your student’s Virtual Learning Plan, please direct any questions to your child’s school.

If you do not have Internet access, TDS (formerly Continuum Communications) is offering Free Broadband Access for New K-12 and college student households for 60 Days. This applies to new customers only. For more information call: 704-660-3840.

Likewise, Charter will offer free Spectrum broadband access for New K-12 and college student households for 60 Days. For more information call 1-844-488-8395.

In addition, we will be beginning breakfast/lunch meal pick-up tomorrow (Wednesday, March 18) at Park View Elementary between 11:00am and 1:00pm. If you are picking up your meals at Park View Elementary School, you will turn left off of Oak St. into Park View front parking lot/bus drop-off. People will be available to hand you your meals through the window of your vehicle. We will have 4 “fulfillment” loading spots. Please pull forward and follow the direction of staff. You will exit by making a right turn out of the lot onto W. McNeely Ave. Of course, South Elementary School will continue to be a pick-up option, too, with an updated pick-up time of 11:00am to 1:00pm! Please note that you are allowed to pick up meals for a neighbor or friend’s students and the students do not have to be present. We do, however, need the student names that the meals are being picked up for that day. We appreciate your patience as we work on a plan to utilize our busses to deliver meals to neighborhoods next week.

We look forward to working together with all of our families as we navigate these extraordinary times. Thank you!
