Hello MGSD parents!

With school starting on August 2, we wanted to send out information regarding the wearing of masks for the start of the new school year. As of right now, masks are mandated within our school buildings to help with the control of COVID-19. This mandate will remain in effect until July 30 at 5:00pm according to the Governor’s executive order.  At this time, we do not know if Governor Cooper and NCDHHS will extend the mandate for the new school year; however, assuming the State allows the mandate to expire, we will do what we have done since the beginning of this Pandemic and follow their lead. Simply put, if the school mask mandate is not extended, we will no longer require our students and staff to wear masks after July 30, 2021.  That being said, if you feel it is in the best interest of your student or yourself to wear a mask while on MGSD school grounds, we welcome you and/or your student to continue the practice of wearing a mask.  If you choose for your child to wear a mask while at school, please understand that our staff will not be responsible for making them wear their mask if they take it off throughout the day.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we move forward into a new school year.  We have high expectations that by working together we can keep our schools healthy, safe, and open for our staff, students, parents, and community!

Respectfully,
