Dear MGSD Parents and Community Members,
As the superintendent of the Mooresville Graded School District, it is my pleasure to serve this incredible community and welcome you to the 2025–2026 school year. We are excited about the opportunities this year will bring and remain committed to creating an environment where every student is empowered to grow, thrive, and succeed—academically, socially, and emotionally.
We take great pride in our tradition of excellence, which is evident in the accomplishments of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the ongoing support of our families and community partners. As we look ahead, our focus remains on providing innovative, engaging, and rigorous learning experiences that equip our students for long-term success and help strengthen our broader community.
We recognize that the success of our schools is deeply rooted in the strength of our partnerships. We invite and encourage you to stay actively involved in your child’s educational journey and to take part in school events and district initiatives. The relationships we build with our families and community are vital to the work we do.
Effective communication is essential to maintaining these partnerships. We encourage you to regularly visit our district website, follow our social media channels, and utilize the ParentSquare app to stay up to date on important announcements and events. If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teachers, school leaders, or our Central Office.
Together, we can continue to build a supportive educational environment that inspires every student to reach their full potential. Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to the Mooresville Graded School District.
Please read through this newsletter carefully for important information to get your school year off to a good start. Here’s to a fantastic 2025–2026 school year!
Kind regards,
Superintendent Jason Gardner, Ed.D.

As a reminder, online student registration for the 2025 - 2026 school year is now open through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. This online process allows review and updating of a child's demographic, health, and household information, along with phone numbers and emergency contacts, from home. This process needs to be completed even if your children have been attending MGSD schools in past years. Timely completion ensures your child is ready for the new school year, has access to class schedules, and aids us in planning for this new school year.
You should have received Instructions on accessing the Infinite Campus Parent Portal via email on Tuesday, July 15. Please check your SPAM folder If you did not receive that email. If you have questions or need assistance, do not hesitate to reach out to your school's data manager. Resources and assistance are available on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal page, as well as our MGSD Infinite Campus webpage. Thank you!

We have a couple of new protocols around technology use for our students this year.
- Technology fees only apply to students in grades 5 - 12 this year.
- These fees can be paid online. A guide to help you do that can be found at this link: Help for Online Payments.
- Only grades 5 - 12 will utilize the MGSD book bags. New students in those grades will receive a new book bag.
- Existing students in those grades may use the book bag they were previously issued or purchase a new book bag to replace theirs if they choose to do so.
- We would appreciate the help of our parents to prepare for any laptop damages that may have occurred over the summer. Please fill out this form with any information regarding damages: Summer Device Damage
Thank you from the MGSD Technology Department!

As we prepare for the new school year, please review the important transportation information below. Your support helps us keep our students safe and our buses running efficiently!
Here Comes the Bus
Track your child’s school bus in real time using the Here Comes the Bus app. This tool shows the bus’s location in relation to your stop — especially helpful during cold or rainy weather so students can wait inside until the bus is nearby.
Transportation Requests or Changes
All transportation requests or changes must go through your school’s data manager. Please allow UP TO 5 business days for changes to take effect. Families should have a backup transportation plan during this period.
Bus Stop Locations
Have a concern about your child’s stop?
Contact the Transportation Office at 704-658-2634. Per NC General Statute 115c-246, students may walk up to 1 mile to a bus stop. While we aim to reduce this distance, we prioritize safety and efficiency using intersection or community stops whenever possible.
Discipline and Safety
- All discipline concerns should be directed to your child’s school administration, not addressed at the bus stop.
- Only students and the driver are allowed to board the bus.
- Students should be at their stop 15 minutes before the assigned time.
- No food or drinks should be consumed on the bus. Items should be stored securely in a lunchbox to avoid spills.
- Students must get on and off only at their assigned stop.
- MGSD requires that a parent or guardian is at the bus stop for students in grades pre-k thru 2nd. If a parent is not present at the designated stop for the PM route, the student will be returned to the school at the conclusion of the route.
Riding the Bus is a Privilege
Riding the bus is a privilege and may be revoked due to inappropriate behavior. Please talk to your child about school bus safety and acceptable behaviors:
- Stay alert and aware of surroundings at the bus stop.
- Stand at least 10 feet from the road until the bus comes to a complete stop.
- No phone use while boarding—students must pay attention to the driver’s signal before crossing.
- Board quickly, sit facing forward, keep voices low, hands to self, and keep aisles clear at all times.
Route Information
Route details will be shared via ParentSquare no earlier than August 1. Please check your email and make sure notifications are enabled so you don’t miss important updates. We appreciate your patience during the first few weeks of school as we make adjustments and fine-tune routes.
We’re Hiring School Bus Drivers!
Looking for a rewarding, flexible job? Join our team!
- Competitive pay
- Flexible schedule
- Free CDL class
- CDL reimbursement after 3 months of successful driving
- Weekends off – no late nights
- Leave work at work
Thank you for your continued partnership to ensure a safe and successful year for our bus riders!

The MGSD Health Services team is excited to welcome our students to another wonderful and healthy school year! If you have any questions or need assistance regarding health services for your student, please contact your school nurse. Their contact information can be found at this link: Health Services MGSD.
When does my student need to stay home from school due to illness?
- Please follow this guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
- You can send in a parent note, doctor's note or respond to the absence notice in parent square when your child is absent.
What are the required vaccines that my student needs?
- There are REQUIRED vaccines for KINDERGARTEN, 7TH GRADE and 12TH GRADE. Updated vaccine records are DUE the first day of school.
- Kindergarten required vaccines: DTap, Polio, MMR, Varicella, Hib, Hepatitis B, Pneumococcal conjugate (PCV)
- 7th grade required vaccines: Tdap and Meningitis (MCV4)
- 12th grade required vaccine: Meningitis (MCV4)
- More information about required immunizations can be found here: NCDHHS Immunization Requirements
My student has a medical condition. What do I need to do?
- Please contact your school nurse to figure out which health plan would be necessary (copies of plans can be found on the Health Services MGSD webpage).
- New plans are REQUIRED each school year.
- If you have any doctor’s notes that give specific instructions, make sure your school nurse has a copy.
- Some medical conditions are student specific and will need to have a health plan developed by your school nurse. The school nurse will work with the student and parent/guardian to develop this plan.
My student needs to take medicine during the school day. How do I do this?
-
Prescription medications that are given daily - or as needed - at school must have a Medication Authorization form completed by the doctor and parent/guardian. The parent/guardian then must bring the medication to the school to sign it in. Your student SHOULD NOT have prescription medication on them at school unless it is an emergency medication such as Glucagon, Inhaler or Epinephrine. (School Board Policy 6125)
- Over the Counter Medications may be carried by Middle and High School students according to School Board Policy 6125; HOWEVER, an Over the Counter Medication form MUST be submitted in order for them to do so.
Help us keep our children in school and learning! We look forward to your partnership this school year!
