Before and After School Program

In a growing number of families, both parents or the single parent work or have commitments outside of the home.  When this is the case, school age children often need quality care and supervision.  Family well-being is assisted when parents know their children are receiving quality care.  The Mooresville Graded School District Before and After School Program (BASP) is designed to provide family support with a school age child care program at conveniently located, well staffed sites throughout the district. The program provides supervision and structured activities before and after school and during student vacation days.  Program sites are located at all K - 6 elementary and intermediate school buildings allowing access to school playgrounds, equipment, gymnasiums, and audio-visual materials while the students remain in a familiar, child-friendly environment.  The following program tenets are what make our BASP successful:

  • A written schedule of activities for each group of children indicating routines and blocks of time is posted and followed.
  • Schedules encourage a balance between student-directed and structured adult lead activities with periods of active play alternating with quieter activities.

  • Each day, children are provided at least 4 different activity options including table and active games, dramatic play, art, crafts, science, music and other interest choices.  Activities are designed to promote independence, self-reliance and enhance social skills while helping children learn to listen, follow directions and solve problems.
  • Snacks are served each day and time is provided for homework.

Summer Program               EGISTRATION 2022 will begin Sunday, February 20, 2022.  1:00 PM 4/13/21: We have a waiting list for Summer.  If you would like to be placed on the waiting list, please fill out and submit an application - we will contact you if we have an opening.

Summer Care is available to current kindergarten through sixth grade, even if they did not attend B.A.S.P. during the school year.  Priority will be given to MGSD students first, then if there are any open slots, we will accept outside students.  Summer Care attendance is optional and care must be pre-arranged with the Program Director.  Forms to pre-register for Summer Care are available beginning in February.   Registration is on a first come first serve basis but priority will be given to MGSD students.  A waiting list will be started when we reach the 81st application.

Beginning with Summer Camp 2022 there will only be one plan of care available.  Camp will run Monday through Thursday only. Fees are a flat rate and inclusive for all summer program activities.  Fees for summer 2022 are $160.00.   The non-refundable deposit will remain $100.00.

We now have a fillable PDF form that you will submit electronically through email.  You will need to make sure you have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to open and fill the form - using this PDF reader will ensure your form fills correctly and is not distorted when you save it and returned to me.  Please remember you must save the filled document as instructed below.

We will not be accepting paper copies again this year due to the current conditions.  Your electronic signature will be accepted for the registration and if your child gets a slot you will then be asked to hand sign the form at a later date.  Summer Registration will begin February 19th, 2021,  and we will have between 40 and 48 slots available.

Summer Camp will begin on June 1 and run through July 28, 2022.  We will be closed the week of July 4-8, 2022.

Instructions for Summer Camp Registration - We have not been able to successfully get the application to fill and submit via cell phone.

There are 2 ways to submit the application, please choose one of the instructions below.

Option A. You will need access to Adobe Acrobat Reader (free). If you do not currently have this installed you may access the download from this link Adobe Acrobat Reader. Use the first link in the upper right of the screen. Once you have installed the application follow the steps below to open the application in Adobe.

1. Save the Summer Registration application to your computer's desktop.

2. Open Adobe Acrobat Reader.

3. In the toolbar under File - click Open and choose the summer registration file

4. Fill in all boxes on pages 7-12.

5. Once the application is complete click the Print button and print your copy.

6. Click the submit button and follow the prompts - you will select use web mail and then choose gmail or other and continue following the prompts. There may be a time delay for the next window to pop up - be patient.

7. When the email composition window opens, enter your child's name in the (insert child's name here) in the body of the email and send the email.

8.  Check your "SENT" folder - if you do not find the email you just sent, check your "drafts" and "outbox" - you may need to send them from there.

Option B

  1. Download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader ( https://get.adobe.com/reader/ )
  2. Click on Link below (Summer Camp Application TBA)and DOWNLOAD it to your computer.
  3. Open registration form with Adobe
  4. Fill in pages 7-12.
  5. At the top of the screen choose “File “- “Save As”  from the dropdown menu
  6. Rename the file as your "BASP Summer Application" then click save to your desktop.
  7. Open your email, start a new message to “basp@mgsd.k12.nc.us”  Subject: BASP Summer Application,  in the body of the email - insert your child's name
  8. attach the file and send it.

Summer Camp Application 2022 ( Waiting list is in effect.)

Topical Ointment Permission Slip Please print, sign and return to BASP Director by May 13, 2022. Please send Pump spray sunscreen  (no aerosols  please) .  We MUST have the EXACT name of the sunscreen on this form for the form to be complete.  We do not provide sunscreen.

Maximum capacity is 80 at this time.
