MGSD, It's getting cold outside!

Posted Date: 12/12/25 (04:42 PM)

Hello MGSD families!

With winter just nine days away, it is that time of year where overnight lows could dip well below freezing.  With that in mind, we wanted to share some information to help every student stay warm and safe on their way to school this winter season.

Stay Informed to help stay warm

Cold mornings can make a big difference in bus timing.

To help your child avoid waiting outside longer than necessary, we encourage all families to use the Here Comes the Bus app.

  • Potential Delays: When temperatures drops well below freezing, buses can take a little longer to wake up. Drivers prepare for the cold, but there may still be slight delays. On those cold mornings this winter, please know it might take a few extra minutes. The app will let you know when the bus is actually on the move.

  • Stay Warm Inside: The app lets you set notification zones (from 200 feet up to 2 miles), so students can stay warm inside until their bus is getting close to their stop.

  • Download Today: If you haven't already, please download the app and set up your alerts before Monday morning. You can find directions at this link:  Here Comes the Bus.

Dress for the Drop

As temperatures drop with winter's onset, it is important that students are bundled up before heading out:

  • Coat

  • Gloves

  • Hat or Hood

  • Layers whenever possible

If you need any assistance with winter outerwear, please reach out to your school's counselor or leave a comment.

Be ready in case of SNOW (or any inclement weather calls)

In case you need to refresh yourself on our MGSD Inclement Weather Procedures, check out the document at this link:  Inclement Weather Protocols 2025 - 2026.

Thank you for helping us ensure all students are safe and warm!
